| Ryo can't believe his luck when "Mokkori Babe" Machiko, who he ran into on the street, agrees to go to a coffee house with him. While there, she introduces him to Shinkichi Gamao--her father. Mr. Gamao asks why he was half an hour late, what his name is (even Machiko doesn't know it yet), and what his job is. Machiko pulls Ryo aside and begs him to pretend to be her fiance--she invented the story to avoid having to leave Tokyo and return home. Ryo describes his work as "A job that makes the world a brighter place", and when Mr. Gamao notices his pistol, he guesses that Ryo is a police detective. "Please indulge a father his request!" he asks. He wants to see where Ryo works, to know for certain what sort of man his daughter is going to marry... |
