| The mysterious and powerful man known as "Z" destroys thousands of ships that have invaded Tokimi-sama's domain. After a meeting with Tokimi-sama and D3, "Z" sets out to do what he must. Meanwhile on Earth at Tenchi's home, life carries on as normal. "Z" intercepts a letter from Mihoshi to her family and replaces it with one of his own. Tenchi heads into town to see his father and has a series of flashbacks as he comes upon his old school (being rebuilt) and the lot where his old house once stood. After visiting with old school friends, Tenchi goes to the apartment where his father Nobuyuki works with his female assistance Reiya. Reiya took care of Tenchi after his mother Kiyone died and so she's like an older-sister to him. She went to Tokoyo with Tenchi's grandfather to insure Tenchi's name wasn't associated with the destruction of the school, the house, and the Seto bridge. After a drive with his father in which his mother's death comes up, Tenchi returns home and Ryo-ohki goes missing. Ryoko finds her and discovers a motherly instinct within herself. She spends the rest of the day with Ryo-ohki being a mother and sister to her which shocks everyone. The following day, Nobuyuki puts together a PC he bought for Tenchi while everyone watches including Washu who is very amused. As he works, a visitor arrives to see Tenchi and she looks exactly like his dead mother! | |

First, since it had been 8 years since OAV 2 came out, the audience is shown how Tenchi and "family" got to where they are now. Secondly, it sets the table for what's to come in future episodes of OAV 3. | |
