Title: | Kowloon Generic Romance |
Episode: | 04: |
Synopsis | |
We are told that the Kowloon district was torn down in 1994, but was illegally rebuilt more-or-less as it was; again, 'nostalgia' is mentioned as a reason. But Kudo senses that there's something funny going on; "This isn't the Kowloon I know" he remarks. We learn that the green-haired guy once loved Kujirai--'Kujirai B' as she's called. "Kujirai B is a different person than me and seems to have passed away already" the current Kujirai concludes. She talks of creating her 'absolute self', independent and free of regrets. "Even I am the result of plastic surgery" Yaomay remarks. "Everyone has high hopes for Genetic Terra" Kujirai says at one point; what do they hope it will do? In a shocker, Kudo tells Kujirai that he killed Kujirai B. He and green-haired guy (GHG) both say to themselves that this event was a 'mistake'. | |

A lot happens during this episode. I had assumed that the old Kujirai and the new one occupied the same body, she just has amnesia now. But no, it sounds like they really were two different people with different bodies, because there is considerable mention of cloning in this episode--like "the second version of you". I don't recall any mention of that before now, but it changes everything. It sounds like cloning is fairly commonplace. Clones are referred to as 'Zirconians', a reference to the artificial gem. Apparently GHG had a clone of his own at one time, but it, too, is (probably) now dead (are the clones defective somehow?). Sounds like someone--probably Gene Terra--is conducting large scale cloning for some reason; maybe this is what people have 'high hopes' for, or maybe it is being kept secret from most. |
