Kanon - 3: The Lonely Little Memory

Title:Kanon
Episode:3: The Lonely Little Memory
Synopsis
Whatever that grudge might be this blonde girl Sawatari Makoto [image1] holds against Yuuichi, none of both seem to remember. But when Makoto collapses on the street Akiko decides they can't just leave her there [image2].
Yuuichi doesn't believe in Makoto's story; at school, he searches advice from Shiori who already is his confidant now.
Later, Yuuichi discovers that Makoto must have ruined his school equipment [image3]. And when he misses his wallet, a suspect is easily found as well [image5].
Finally, Yuuichi helps Akiko with shopping; they happen to meet Ayu [image4], and the girl makes Akiko wonder. Ayu is searching for something important but doesn't remember what it was...
Comments
(Devil Doll, 2004-01-18 - contains spoilers, though I try to not be too explicit):
Quite a start for girl number four, topping the Ayu 'stunt' - but see below. Yuuichi carrying his bags in the first episode must have been intentional, as he will have to carry heavy stuff throughout the series - this time it's even a hungry girl who happens to get unconditional support by both Minase ladies.
Nayuki's comments on Yuuichi are always interesting: This time she blames him for what happened without obviously knowing any details... or does she? She might be more involved than she knows herself at that time; today she's no success story either. Also, it is fun to watch Kaori and Kitagawa repeatedly teasing Nayuki and Yuuichi about being a couple.
Although her appearances are short Shiori has already conquered a place in Yuuichi's life; if only this boy knew how she must think about certain of his caring words...
The energetic Ayu always refers to herself as "boku" (male "I"). As for her mysterious search, all Yuuichi can give her now is moral support. This time it's Akiko who provides a healthy dose of foreshadowing: saying "there's no way this could be" is not a good point, considering the show we're in.
What I like best in this episode is the connection between the girl's issues: The destruction of Yuuichi's notebook leads to Nayuki lending him her own, and this to Yuuichi trying to recover it, ending up in the fifth girl entering the stage - with an appearance [image6] that one might hardly ever forget.

Yuiichi's line of the day: "Phone number? Date of birth? Blood type? The name of your favourite star?"
