I can't help concluding that it's pure luck that is carrying Tylor along--anybody can get lucky once or twice, but when a character becomes so lucky that danger becomes meaningless, the result is boredom. Also, it's kind of hard to like Tylor when he won't lift a finger to so much as pretend to perform his duties as Captain. Lieutenant Yamamoto is my favorite character--I can't help feeling sorry for him as he tries to perform his duties by the book, and gets absolutely no appreciation. Also, I wish a more plausible explanation had been provided as to how Tylor was made captain of a spaceship--perhaps an experiment to determine whether luck or skill is more important to an officer. |
