Comments
Most episodes of Golgo 13 have an interesting premise, even if not a whole lot is made of it, but this one didn't even have that. Basically, murderous hijackers seize a ship, and Duke kills them all--the end. We were given no reason to think that Shadow stood the slightest chance against Duke, nor any reason to feel any sympathy for him. The bad guys are 110% evil with no personalities at all. There were virtually no personalities in this episode as a whole, come to think of it. The only semblance of style was the trick Duke used to bag Shadow, and I have no idea whether or not it would have worked in real life. The episode as a whole was rather patronizing: Duke casually pulls a speedboat up to a pier--in the midst of a raging hurricane. A minisub is somehow provided to him overnight, and he handles it flawlessly. Never mind what it looked like, how it disabled the Dexy, or how Duke boarded it. And the hijackers expected to be let go after killing several people once they left US territorial waters? And to sell a tanker's worth of oil somewhere? It's almost as if the plot of this episode was scribbled on a restaraunt napkin as an afterthought.
