| This was a massacre--but a good massacre. I couldn't help laughing as Duke ran roughshod over the brainwashed religious fanatics who thought they could take him on. It was like a shooting gallery at one point. Some scenes take place in darkness where you can't make out what's happening, until the gruesome sound effects reveal that yet another cult member has fallen before Duke. There's not much of a story, really, just we are shown how bad these cult members are--especially Michael--then Duke slaughters them. Still, it works and I did not feel patronized at all. I'd forgotten how intoxicating this unique anime is, what with the setting in the dark, seedy underside of society. Golgo 13 may be the ultimate anti-hero. At any rate, when it was all over I was grinning and said to myself "Damn, that was awesome!". You've been away too long, Golgo 13! I read that BSS had abandoned this series because the head translator had quit and the others preferred working on Gundam 00. Fortunately, a couple of additional episodes have been fansubbed, including this one by SDX-RSS. Someone claimed that a number of the fansubbers were the same people as before, however. P.S: Duke seems to have accepted this job for a mere $300,000! He's getting generous. | |
