Juusou Kikou Dancouga Nova - 7: Dancouga Vs. Dancouga

Title:Juusou Kikou Dancouga Nova
Episode:7: Dancouga Vs. Dancouga
Synopsis
Sakuya commits his homeless person belongings to an bonfire in Hibatani Park. Barnett resigns from his job as a salaryman, even though he was the rising star of the company. Kronkite tries to convince her editor that inhuman assailants were responsible for the fiasco at Keihin Hall. FS ("Fog Sweeper") confers with Will* about the attack which nearly killed his "friends". Even Will doesn't know who was responsible, but admits they probably weren't human. FS is worried that Dancouga isn't ready to deal with this new enemy yet. The woman in charge of Ardaigun (not the pilot) is berated by her financier for taking too long to defeat Dancouga. Barnett sees a new commercial starring Eida Rossa. Sakuya arrives at the Dragon's Hive to an unusual welcome from Seimii. Hidaka and Kurara are trying to make sense of what happened at the party as they enjoy the swimming pool. They see Sakuya being escorted somewhere by Seimii and follow them to the Simulation Room. They listen in, and are startled by what they hear. Later, Dancouga is scrambled on another mission, and again Ardaigun turns up--is it an ally or an enemy?

I think it was Will; it sounded like him, but was shown in a freaky, artsy manner.

You've been away far too long, Dancouga Nova! It's been something like a month since the last fansub was released. It's a helluva lot easier to remember what happened in an episode you watched a month or so ago when it's from a show you love, like this one! I've watched some of the original Dancougar series since episode six, and this version clearly stands head and shoulders above it. This show continually has me grinning, whereas I often wish the old episodes would hurry up and end. The old fight scenes get boring in a hurry while these stay snappy and exciting. I guess the original show was largely a sell-mecha-toys-to-kids sort of show, while this one is designed to appeal to those same "kids" who are now grown men reminiscing about their childhoods. Dancouga Nova isn't completely innocent of the sin of reusing old clips, but certainly not to the same extent as the 1985 version. Plus, the clips it repeats are way better than those of twenty-odd years ago! Still, I can't claim that Dancouga Nova features state-of-the-art animation; it seems that the bulk of the available resources are committed to the fight scenes (only natural), while 'tween the missions closeups of faces are sharply drawn but other animation seems relatively hasty, undetailed, and unfocused. But one thing this show most certainly knows how to do right is keep you wanting more! As this episode ended, I could only say to myself WTF?! (what we need here is a new set of italics, for cases where ordinary italics cannot do justice). The earth will be saved? This is all thanks to Will? I'm reminded of a comment I once read, about how the right amount of mystery breeds fascination and intrigue, whereas too little is boring and too much leads to frustration. Goddamn, (pardon my French), this show just knows how to end each episode in a cool way, leaving me wanting so much more--hence we come full circle: You've been away far too long, Dancouga Nova!
