Juusou Kikou Dancouga Nova - 2: Super Beastial Divine Fusion!

Title:Juusou Kikou Dancouga Nova
Episode:2: Super Beastial Divine Fusion!
Synopsis
Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Isabelle Kronkite is on the spot at an action involving Dancouga. Later, the four pilot candidates are back at their homes when they each recieve a call (except for Sakuya--he doesn't have a phone). Each one finds a place where they are out of sight and is teleported back to the Dragon's Hive. Sakuya notes that no one has "dropped out". They are shown to their quarters, which are meticulous replications of their homes back in mainland Japan, then fitted for their new pilot's uniforms. Next, Commander Tanaka greets them; they have plenty of as yet unanswered questions to ask him. "So," he says, "let's start by having Will-san explain just exactly what Dancouga is"...
Comments
I wish I could explain it, but one of the chief strengths of Dancouga Nova is the way it steadily holds my interest; I seldom, if ever, feel bored, and not many shows can make that claim. Comedy is witty and well written. The action scenes have me grinning from ear to ear; I swear, I'm not laughing at this show, but with it. Perhaps the answer is that they know exactly how seriously to take themselves! I had my doubts about the animal modes, which seem kind of absurd. But maybe the show is just making a nod to fans of the 1985 version; "Beast Mode" hasn't played all that great a part in succeeding episodes. Enemy mechs are really far-out and sometimes have a sort of devilish look to them. Combat is kind of "sanitized" with opponents being either automated robots or the human pilots ejecting safely. But again, I don't care--this show is so much fun that countless imperfections can be forgiven.

Super Beastial Divine Fusion... He he he...
