Juusou Kikou Dancouga Nova - 11: Destroyed? Dragon Fang Island!

Title:Juusou Kikou Dancouga Nova
Episode:11: Destroyed? Dragon Fang Island!
Synopsis
Commander Tanaka pardons Team D for saving Ardaigun even though it had been ordered not to intervene. In fact, he's quite pleased; "Dancouga and Ardaigun have the same enemy" he explains. Sure enough, Ardaigun promptly arrives at Dragon Fang Island, and the team meets Vladimir--she and Tanaka seem to have met before. Kronkite, who has quit her job as a reporter to pursue the truth about Dancouga on her own, arrives as well. Everyone is escorted to FS for a (hopefully) complete explanation. He reveals that it was Will--"an inorganic life form"--who planned everything. The story of a cataclysmic battle in another solar system ages ago is related, along with the consequences it had. Will was stationed on Earth billions of years ago, to act as it's guardian and ensure that it did not meet the same fate. But a similar life form--which Will calls his "brother"--has been observing Earth recently and has reached a different conclusion: that Earth should be destroyed...

The Director of Dancouga Nova is Masami Obari, and both Series Composition and Script are credited to Hideki Mitsui and Takeshi Shudo; it would be wise to keep an eye out for further works of anime sporting these names! I wish I could explain how these guys--and everyone else on the staff--manage to keep this show so rip-roaring exciting and fun. After all, you know that Ardaigun won't just sit in the hangar while Dancouga defends Dragon Fang Island; you know that certain characters won't get killed, even though that seems to be the case; but it doesn't matter, we're soaking up the action, mystery and comedy and thoroughly enjoying ourselves anyhow. This is the sort of show that just leaves you with a grin on your face, even if it is kind of predictable (but not too predictable, the little details are often unexpected). This episode's station break was especially good, and there were a number of unusual camera tricks throughout. The truth behind Dancouga's purpose was good enough for me. I'd still like to learn a little about the enigmatic FS, though. As the episode came to an end (with unusually colorful and beautiful artwork), and Team D realized what they would need to do to ensure earth's safety, I could only say to myself Cool!--I feel like I can't wait for the final episode, but I'll try to pause awhile before I watch it, to stretch out this pleasantly electrifying feeling of intrigue.
