The mysterious entity in Dr. Butterfly's "Recovery Flask" is draining the students of the school of their life energy. As Papillon and Butterfly fight, Kazuki and Tokiko race to put a stop to the feeding process. Kazuki cannot resist stopping to check on Mahiro and his friends. The mortally injured Dr. Butterfly tells Papillon that "Victor" was originally an alchemic warrior. "A century ago he transformed into a being of a third kind, surpassing both humans and homunculi. Pursued by his former comrades, he escaped here after a deadly battle. In exchange for sharing his alchemic knowledge with me, I promised I would restore him, no matter how long it would take". Butterfly does not know what brought Victor into conflict with his fellow warriors, what he intends to do, or how the intrigued Papillon might become like him. "Don't miss the battle between him and that young warrior which is about to begin" he advises. Kazuki employs his "energy release" tactic to smash his way through the flask. He finds himself in the presence of a hulking, green-haired figure who asks matter-of-factly, "Good morning. Who are you?"... |
"Holy S---!" was the exclamation that came to mind when a seemingly down-for-the-count Kazuki played a card which he had up his sleeve (but may not have been aware of himself). I certainly didn't see that coming, but it makes sense and as a result the episode ends on a tantalizing cliffhanger. The fight between Kazuki and Tokiko and Victor was pretty neat--not too Dragonball Z-ish, thank God. Kazuki was getting the crap beaten out of him, and I was intrigued--surely he will survive, but how? They skipped showing exactly how he lost his kakugane; sometimes this show omits little details like that. Also, why did both Kazuki and Butterfly's kakuganes have the Roman numeral "LXX" on them? There was little comedy this time, which is generally my favorite part, but it was fun nevertheless. Much better, in fact, than the last couple of episodes! |
