Busou Renkin - 10: You And I Get Along Pretty Well

Title:Busou Renkin
Episode:10: You And I Get Along Pretty Well
Synopsis
Now that they know they are enemies, Kazuki and Tokiko face off against the Hayasaka twins in the school gymnasium after dark. Kazuki, who had come to think of Shuusui as a friend, is especially uncomfortable with this. Tokiko warns him to clear out if he's not prepared to give this fight his all; he says he will. For a homunculus, Shuusui has a strangely noble, "Warrior's Code" attitude towards the duel. When the time to begin comes around, Oka is nowhere to be seen. Kazuki insists on taking on Shuusui himself. Tokiko observes that Shuusui's amazing "speed and accuracy are not normal", even for a user of Arms Alchemy; he also seems to be using an ordinary sword, not an alchemic weapon. A wild fight ensues, doing considerable damage to the school buildings 'til the action moves outside. Tokiko blocks an ambush attempt by Oka, then pursues her to a rooftop, where she finds her armed with a strange bow and with a bizarre creature clinging to her shoulder. Meanwhile, Kazuki activates his devastating "Sunlight Crusher", but somehow Shuusui's sword cancels out it's alchemic energy. "This will simply come down to a battle between a sword and lance" Shuusui says...

The craziness of this show both keeps it exciting and keeps me grinning--it could have easily crossed the line into corny or downright stupid, but somebody knew what they were doing, and I love it. The climactic fight is pretty cool with a fairly neat trick used to turn the tables. While I was anxiously waiting for an explanation of the Hayasaka twins' "wish", and I saw them clinging to their mother (I guess), I thought I detected a crass FMA ripoff, but there was no mention of the parent when they (partially) explaned their desire later on. Their motivations are intriguing, too (immortality?)--where will things go from here? I think the chances of my guess that the twins may switch sides coming true are pretty good at this point! One last thing--when the name of Shuusui's sword is revealed (I won't include it here) my first thought was that it was pretty absurd--but then I remembered that the author of Busou Renkin was the same guy as wrote Ruroni Kenshin, and I got the joke!
