| "The Scream" (Skrik, 1893) is a seminal series of expressionist paintings by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, depicting an agonized figure against a blood red skyline. Anyone who has watched a fair amount of anime cannot help noticing how often the painting is parodied in visual jokes.
