| "The Scream" (1893) is a seminal series of expressionist paintings by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, depicting an agonized figure against a blood red skyline. Anyone who has watched a fair amount of anime cannot help noticing how often the painting is parodied in visual jokes. Here, Ryo is horrified by an interrogation technique used by his comrade Yang Fanyui to extract information from a prisoner—-a technique which employs a threat which especially strikes home to a “Mokkori Man” like him.
