Solty Rei - 5: Waterside Panic

Title:Solty Rei
Episode:5: Waterside Panic
Synopsis
Blue Comet Rose (who we met in episode 3), steals a fabulous emerald from the RUC Museum. But the museum's security system detects her, and she is forced to stash it at the elaborate bath house nextdoor. The next day Solty and company are enjoying the giant indoor pool at the bath house, and so are the RUC Security girls. Rose is posing as a waitress, and blatantly tells both Roy and Solty why she's there, and warns them not to interfere. Roy couldn't care less, until Miranda recalls that there's a reward equal to 10% of the emerald's value awaiting any hunter who recovers it. The RUC girls, meanwhile, are ordered to abandon their rare day off and search for the emerald as well. Rose offers Solty a job as a thief, since she was impressed by her performance the last time they met. Solty asks her why she stole the emerald, and Rose says she did it to help the unregistered citizens who live in squalor in the "lower levels", a supposedly abandoned underground city. Solty resolves to help her, because "People's lives depend on it!"...

Gee, I don't know what to say--a "girls-in-bikinis" episode even in this previously thoughtful and touching series? I'm uncomfortable with this turn away from the blend of mystery and sweetness which I liked so much early on. If this is a one-time stunt, and the show gets back in the groove right away, I can forgive it. It was, after all, full of thoroughly impossible, completely outrageous, yet somehow amusing action! In this episode's prologue, we get some more info on Resemble technology: The population consists of "Natives" (ordinary people), "Resembles" (people with some artificial body parts), and now those "constructed totally from mechanical parts" who scientists call "Genuine" (completely artificial people, such as Solty).
