| Early in the morning, Roy finds that Solty has broken into his room (though she cheerfully insists the door was “open”) and is waiting for him. Miranda drops off a letter notifying Solty that she has been provisionally recorded as Roy’s foster daughter; to make the arrangement final, she must undergo a physical examination. Roy is annoyed, but to motivate him to take Solty to the hospital Miranda assigns him a job there. Chief Secretary Dewey Black wants Roy to protect both himself and a mysterious case as it is transported—a cryptic letter has been received, saying only that “We’ll be taking it”. The employee examining Solty is a Resemble engineer who initially resents such a lowly task, but soon finds her to be “amazing”. Roy foils an attempt to steal the case while still at the hospital, but the culprits escape. As a result, a small army of hunters is hired to guard the actual transport of the case… |
