Solty Rei - 1: The Town Where the Aurora Falls

Title:Solty Rei
Episode:1: The Town Where the Aurora Falls
Synopsis
Bounty hunter Roy Revant knocks down fleeing fugitive Dale Boyd with an explosive bullet; then, when Boyd tries a dirty trick, procedes to beat him senseless. “Sorry” Roy explains, “this is how I do things”. Meanwhile, a strange, incredibly agile girl is on the run from two power-suited women. They eventually catch up to her, but wind up wishing that they hadn’t. The next day, Miranda Maverick, head of the “Maverick Hunters” agency, is recording a TV commercial with her daughter, Kasha. Roy interrupts to report his capture of Dale Boyd. “He’s as crazy as ever” another hunter comments. “I hear he’s still looking for his daughter, even though it’s been ten years” yet another mentions. Roy’s daughter, Rita, vanished during a disaster known as the “Blast Fall”, but he remains certain that she is still alive somewhere. While walking along a street, he is attacked and wounded by Boyd’s partner, Grey Walker. He leads Walker on a chase to a construction site, and is on his last legs when a strange green-haired girl plunges from above and crushes Walker’s artificial arm. Incredulous at this sudden stroke of luck, Roy takes a good look at the girl. “A Resemble?”…
Comments
Resemble technology seems to be a line of artificial body parts for persons crippled during the Blast Fall. Despite certain clichés, like lone-wolf bounty hunter Roy Revant, I find this to be a neat, fun show—it must be, since I, a person who generally prefers to watch a single episode of as many different shows as possible during a sitting, watched episodes one and two back-to-back. Artwork is excellent—searching for good stills makes that clear, when ordinarily my attention would be absorbed by racing to read the subtitles. Roy is surprisingly indifferent to the strange girl, even after witnessing the fantastic strength she possesses; you’d think he’d at least urge her to take a job at the Maverick Hunters!
