Gantz - 9: I'll Kill You Without A Moment's Hesitation

Title:Gantz
Episode:9: I'll Kill You Without A Moment's Hesitation
Synopsis
The old lady from the subway visits Kei's apartment, where he has left his power suit. Kei is near panic when he finds no replacement suit awaiting him when the Gantz distributes weapons and equipment. Gantz offers the new team a vague briefing regarding their target, "The Suzuki Alien" (Traits: Strong, Refreshing, Bird). Kato strongly advises everyone to put on their suits, but Tetsuo resents anyone else giving "orders" to his fellow bikers. The other gangmembers peep at Kishimoto as she changes, until Tetsuo tells them to quit. They are angry, and question whether Tetsuo, who has a wife and child, is fit to be their leader. Everyone except Kei and the three punks eventually put on their suits--even Tetsuo. Nishi laughs when he sees that Kei left his suit behind--"It's for sure: one man dead"...

Back to the good stuff! As I've mentioned before, I found the sadistic violence in between the missions to be even more disturbing than the action during the missions themselves, so I'm glad it's time for some more alien hunting. I didn't expect almost an entire episode to be spent waiting for the mission to begin, but it was fun. The Suzuki Alien looks laughable, like a cheap ventriloquist's doll, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to take it seriously, but so far, so good. In fact, so far, very good--the episode ended on a skillful, exciting note that has me eager for more. The convenience store bit was fun, too--even aliens have their quirks. I have finally recieved my Season 1 collection. I was expecting that the episodes would be repackaged onto two or three DVDs, but in fact it contains the usual two-episode discs, in six extra thin plastic jackets within a cardboard case. Oh well, as long as I've got the next disc close at hand when I finish the one I'm watching. Plus, this ought to mean that none of the cool extras (like interviews with the staff) have been deleted, which was something I had been expecting.
