Synopsis | |
Ryuji has been slashed by Uehara-sensei, but she has been shot to pieces. Kei is enraged and vows to kill both Ryuji and Hajime, who meanwhile discover a sizeable stash of weapons awaiting them. Salaryman Naozumi angrily points his blaster at the others, and accuses Giichi of being insensitive to the dead Uehara. Giichi gets angry himself, and goes after Ryuji and Hajime alone. He, and then the others, follow a trail of Ryuji's blood into the lobby of a building--where they are ambushed. Daichi has a clear shot at Hajime, but Giichi interferes. Afterwards, even Giichi admits that there is no choice but to kill both psychopaths. "Let's go tear them apart!" Kei declares... | |

*Stretch*: As Ryuji and Hajime commit nauseating acts of sadistic cruelty, it finally dawned on me that that the series as a whole has reverted to the disturbing human-on-human violence that used to take place inbetween missions. When the enemy really was freakish aliens, the violence didn't have to be--or couldn't be--taken so seriously. That is, it could be exciting without being disgusting. Daichi sort of confirms my suspicion that the moral of the story (if it can be called that) is that other people are far more dangerous than aliens ever could be, which seems rather cynical. Gantz declaring Kei the target of the hunt was a neat touch, but I don't know if it was worth having to endure this. That being said, I'm intrigued by the who's-alive-and-who's-dead cliffhanger at the end. Surely Kei will survive, for now at least. On the other hand, I hear the final episode will have an extremely ambiguous and frustrating conclusion, which I'm not looking forward to... Forbin Sure does. It's a very odd ending. Very anti-bleeding heart. [Devil Doll, 2007-02-24:] Another senseless celebration of violence. The author obviously enjoys to describe this sick perversion to the very detail. The only reasonable scene of this episode was the woman declaring that she sees a second chance for herself. |
