| Through threats, coercion and bribery, a man named Stablos has become extremely wealthy and powerful in Kummen. The only challenge to his authority comes from the Vera Guerillas, but Stablos sees them as little more than prey to hunt down and kill, as if they were animals. Both Carradyne, who is a guest at Stablos' fabulous estate, and Mellowlink, who is watching from the surrounding jungle, suspect that Stablos is in fact Major Snook, another conspirator in the Planpandoll Scandal. Carradyne mentions that Mellowlink has already taken out two other leaders of the conspiracy, and eventually Stablos admits that he is Snook after all--but he has such an iron grip on the local government that there's nothing Carradyne can do about it. "Even if I can't lift a hand" Carradyne replies, "he will hunt you down regardless"... |
