Keroro-gunsou (Sgt. Keroro..."keroro" is a play on the Japanese term for "ribbit," which is "kero"...the frog noise) is part of an alien invasion force to Earth. Sadly, things don't go according to plan leaving Keroro stuck on Earth and living with the Hinata family (mother, daughter, and son). Fortunately, they have a dark, dank, spare room down in the basement that was once a prison cell where an innocent girl once died. Ah, but thanks to the alien technology, Keroro turns it into a stylish bachelor pad that looks better than the rest of the house. What's a family to do with an alien frog? Can the invasion continue or will Keroro be stuck doing the household chores for the rest of his life? What happened to the rest of Keroro Gunsou's team?

This anime is really cute and funny. The alien invader thing is really cliche, but it is good nonetheless. The series (as far as i watched it) is just the antics of the Keroro Platoon who plan to invade Earth (or as they call it "Pekopon") but don't seem to get anything done. Lots of humor, a little action, and the cutest frog aliens ever, this is definetly worth watching.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:796#628]
(One episode watched):

I've read a lot about how beloved this show is in Japan, and have built up a major stock of unwatched episodes, but I was reluctant to commit myself to such a lengthy series, seeing as I'm already watching so many other series concurrently. Just for the hell of it I took a look at episode one. What with the bright colors and uber kawaii character designs, I was afraid this might turn out to be targeted to children (and maybe it is), but I found it to be weird and unpredictable enough for an adult like myself to enjoy. Some shows work on two different levels, and both children and adults find them entertaining (like the old "Batman" TV series in the 60's)--maybe this is one of that kind. The jokes weren't uproariously funny, but could be consistently relied upon to deliver a laugh or two.

Through 96 episodes...episode reviews (and manga too) can be found here.

This thing is proving to be really good if you like those wacky-funny titles. I've had several good laughs which is a good thing. The open theme is a good march and the first end theme "Afro Gunsou" is a great funk song, but is silly like the anime. Got to love that. After an INSANE amount of time, someones finally fansubbing this again. Episode 9 just had me giggle like crazy at times. The anime really is funnier than the manga. Episode 13 sees Dororo (the 5th member) arrive and a little "Power Ranger" parody as well as a "Psycho" one. Episode 14 is the flower episode. Episode 15 is the Momoka-split episode from the manga. I somehow skipped episode 16. I'll have to go back and pick that up. Ep. 17 has the squad invade the school's swimming pool. Then, a favorite Japanese summer pass time of telling ghost stories is done. Ep. 18 has a trip to the beach with an adult-sized Natsumi and Keroro on a mission. Ep. 19 has the tale of the Summer Festival and the tale of the radio program. Ep. 20 has another return to the ocean where Fuyuki meets a special girl. Ep. 21 has everyone learning how to keep cool with traditional Japanese methods when the power goes out on a hot summer's day. Then the Hinata family head to Grandma's home in the country (where we get a fun Lupin III parody scene). Ep. 22 has Tamama become the leader. Ep. 23 has a malfunction of the Kero Ball with humorous results. Ep. 24 has the arrival of the idiotic, unemployed, loser, wannabe Space Detective Kogoro and his sister Lavie. Ep 25 has Momoka's father send his elite assassin forces after her while Keroro sees an opportunity. Looks like there's a nod to the assassins in Castle of Cagliostro. Ep. 26 is the Sports Festival. Ep. 27 has Keroro's father announce a planned visit to Earth. Next, the platoon comes up with a plan to create their own onsen. Ep. 28 has Keroro create a snow event which leads to snow fun. Next, Kururu has fun at everyone's expense. Ep. 29 has Koyuki talk Natsumi into playing Wendy in the school play, which turns into something else when Keroro shows up. Next, the school's newspaper club is out to expose Fuyuki for housing space aliens.

Through 67 episodes, I'd have to say that things have been much more entertaining for me despite the fact that most episodes are anime-only stories. I now know why the series has so many episodes. ^_^ More later...

Through 87 episodes, things have gone to a more kiddie level of late, which make the entertainment value for me pretty low. As such, it becomes harder to watch. That said, with my now having watched Mobile Suit Gundam, the Gundam jokes are now amusing to me.
