Homeless orphan Mito Yamamoto is a pretty boy who wanders the streets in search of someone who will need him and be needed by him. Except Mito isn't really a pretty boy at all, she's secretly a girl. After she falls off a bridge her life is saved by Saotome Ruka, a vampire involved in a power struggle to select the next Vampire Lord. Ruka offers to make Mito his thrall, a servant who will allow him to drink their blood, in exchange for which Mito will be given a home in the dormitory where Ruka lives. And Ruka promises his love--but he is unaware of Mito's secret.

The revelation near the end of episode one that Mito is actually a girl perked up my interest a bit, which was fortunate since I had not been feeling much up until then. Previously this had been looking like a Boys Love anime with a vampire twist. There was something about in order to become Vampire Lord a vampire must have a lover--I didn't completely understand it. Apparently Ruka has been living within human society in search of just such a person for ten years or so, without much luck until now. For some reason he says he can't drink the blood of women, but now he has done so without realizing it. And for some reason human blood tastes much better if the person who provides it loves and is loved in a healthy manner (Ruka initially spurns Mito because hers 'tastes like curry that went rotten and then set out for an extra week'). A new set of rules regarding how to be a vampire, basically. Ruka works part time at a cafe with a staff of hunks (above); it's not clear if they are vampires, too. I suspect they too will stay at the same dorm; a reverse harem, basically. Although I wonder how Mito will keep her secret, nothing else really struck me as particularly interesting about this show. The vampire power struggle is vague and Ruka is still largely a stranger, so I don't really care who will win out. It looks like there will be one other guy (a vampire no doubt) who competes with Ruka for Mito's hand. But just like magic, there's nothing inherently fascinating about vampires in my opinion. An ordinary human with a dynamic personality would be much more interesting than a vampire without one.
