Sam Young is a sickly girl who has come to see life as a game--a 'massive, difficult, S-Rank one' in which you can't employ magic or choose the situation you find yourself in. Feeling relatively well lately, she has been working at her father's company and is especially proud of 'Ruminate', an amateur video game she created. Ruminate was getting pretty good ratings until the well-known game critic 'Marshall Law' trashed it, which set off a race to the bottom as everyone else imitated Law's opinion. Now a devastated Sam has a new next-door tenant, and she recognizes his voice.

(Two episodes watched):

I wasn't sure whether the keywords 'comedy' and 'drama' were both appropriate (or whether 'Romance' might become so), but this show has succeeded in grabbing my attention. Judging from the character's names, you would think it is taking place in the US. It looks like there will be four principal characters: Sam herself, Marshall Law, Link Hudson, a waiter at a cafe Sam frequents, plus Charles Jones, an intermediate manager at her job. Jones sure is hard on her when he must know that her father is his boss; he seems to take a doting attitude towards her, and feel it is his duty to protect her from every threat in life even when she never asked for such a service. Maybe he does this precisely because her father is his boss. The main conflict is that Marshall, the guy who sabotaged Ruminate, has moved in to the apartment next to her. She feels he didn't understand the game at all, didn't delve into it's true depth, and therefore is especially aggrieved. Maybe this will be a 'from-asshole-to-boyfriend' sort of story. I feel the first episode has done a good job of introducing female protagonist Sam; she suffers from some sort of respiratory illness and spent a good deal of her childhood in hospitals. Ruminate was her "Precious, precious treasure", the one thing most important to her, and this guy carelessly dismissed it. She fears Matshall may have brought an end to her prospects of making a living as a game designer altogether, and she would rather not rely on her wealthy father. How will she deal with the strange situation she is in now? I want to know.

Sam can't muster the courage to tell Marshall what she really thinks of him, and he's not as obnoxious as she has assumed. Plus they have something in common. Still, I felt that episode two was missing the novel twist that episode one had had. Sam discovers that Marshall is hosting a young woman in his new apartment, but she's not exactly falling in love with him so that shouldn't be all that big of a deal.
