Kurt Rockhans is 'a powerless man in the party of heroes who handles their chores on a journey to save the world'. Until, that is, he is unceremoniously sacked. An adventuring party can only have four members, and Kurt has no fighting abilities whatsoever. Kurt goes to the local branch of the Hello, Hello Work Station to seek a job. A test of his aptitudes, which are supposedly bestowed by the Gods themselves, suggests the Gods have forsaken him. But as he takes on various jobs of whatever sort is available, it begins to become clear that Kurt is far from useless.

I quickly got the impression that this would be yet another of the 'I was treated like trash and fired from an elite party, but I got the last laugh when I turned out to have amazing skills' subgenre of isekai anime. There was definitely nothing original about the premise; the mention that Kurt will wind up as an 'Atelier Meister' made me wonder if this might be similar to Kinomi Master from last season, i.e, a show with a silly joke behind the main character's secret abilities. But the gag in Kinomi- (which I soon abandoned) was at least mildly amusing while nothing about this show was. It seems to be the notion that he comes from a region where superhuman skills are commonplace so he figures he must be pretty ordinary, which was lifted from an anime of several years ago IIRC. Apparently while Kurt gets a 'G' (worst possible) rating in every category as a fighter, he has remarkable skills in the handling of mana--again, a concept we've already seen in at least one previous isekai anime. It looks like Kurt will wind up leading a party composed of hot babes. So, Kurt is completely useless except that he isn't. This quickly struck me as a show with a predictable and tired premise. Kurt's polite naivete is part of the basic joke, but it leaves him an uninteresting, 2D character. I think to a large extent isekai anime that are based on adventuring videogames have painted themselves into a corner because skills and abilities are almost never acquired through hard work and perseverance (that would take too long and be boring) and instead almost always come about by accident. But that means the main characters tend to be lucky people rather than genuinely admirable ones. At any rate, this show neither made me laugh nor be curious about how Kurt would wind up.
