Six year old Shion is assured by his father that while monsters and fairies are real, magic is not. This demoralizes him, because he had hoped to learn to use it. His older sister Marie takes him to a nearby lake where at sunset strange glowing orbs rise from the water and drift away. Shion deduces the cause of this odd phenomenon, and realizes that what he has on his hands are the basic building blocks of magic. He concludes that the only reason why magic is unknown in this world is because no one has invented it yet.

The problem with this show for me is that I don't find magic in and of itself to be all that interesting or exciting. And this show looks like it will be more about magic than about Shion and Marie. We learn at the end of episode one that Shion has been reincarnated into his present life, which explains how he knows a good deal about magic. Apparently he will be the the person who invents magic in this world and becomes the first and only magician, which might be interesting. It was not easy to take seriously the source of the basic raw material he expects to employ: horny fish?. I guess magic has got to start somewhere. This show never really perked my interest and it is unlikely that I will watch any more, unless I become curious about the supposed evolution of magic.
