Ookami to Koushinryou (2024)
(One episode watched):
I vaguely remember the original Spice and Wolf; it was a clever, thinking person's sort of show rather than the usual action series. I don't recall much of the plot, but I could tell that something was different this time around. This remake was missing something; perhaps it didn't have the same chemistry between the main characters. Lawrence seems like a fairly boring person who doesn't intrigue me at all this time around, and Horo doesn't have the same sass as she once did. A lot of time is spent explaining the old story that some sort of wolf demigod protects the harvests at a village, beliefs which are considered heresy by the powerful and jealous church nowadays. But I didn't really get the feeling that Horo had been seriously wronged and had good reason to leave this place. At least the folks here still sort of believe it. We don't get much of an idea of just what Horo is capable of. One episode isn't much of a sample, and maybe the story doesn't really get underway until episode two, but I couldn't help drawing the conclusion that if I wanted to watch Spice and Wolf, I should probably rewatch the original rather than this remake.
