In the year 20XX, amidst a surge of violence between gangs, or 'tribes' in Neo Tokyo, the Extreme Baseball law is passed. It creates the aforenamed sport as a relatively peaceful way for different tribes to settle differences on the playing field. The bullied (but highly agile) Haru Shirokane and Taiga, a recent arrival from overseas, find themselves allied with famous XB player Shun Kamiya, the leader of the Minato tribe.

I had noticed that while no shows of the Winter 2022 had really thrilled me, none had been so terrible that I had quit watching them before the end of the first episode either. Until now, that is. I thought for a few minutes that this might be fun and original, but it was soon seeming extremely generic. Another scene of too-good-to-believe heroes (one uses a flattened pop can to bring down a watertower) beating up on cowardly bullies. Two strangers get dragged into an XB game, and no doubt will turn out to be prodigies. And this lowly gang has got an 18-wheeler that transforms into a mobile set of benches for XB games? The premise seemed to demand humor, but there was none. Why couldn't a serious attempt have been made to make this team and sport seem halfway believable? Would it have been so hard? This is just another show with little more than wishful thinking ('what if there were genuine heroes to stand up for the downtrodden?') to attract viewers. The characters grated on me to such an extent that I decided that I didn't care how XB is played and would quit watching early. This show fell completely flat with me; in no other show this season has my interest fallen off as rapidly as it did here.
