TOTAL GRADE: 96% BOOGIEPOP is part of Japanese pop trend called Late night anime. Think shows in the 9-12 pm time slots because theyre simply to mature, dark, surreal, weird, whatever for primetime. BOOGIEPOP feels right at home here I found myself constantly being reminded of LAIN while I watched this titlethe animation, storytelling, direction, almost everything seemed reminiscent of LAIN. A good or bad thing depending on whether or not youre a fan of the anime BOOGIEPOP is a fact simile of. Thats not to say this series has nothing to offer on its ownmore its just very different to try and watch. The animation isnt the only thing dark about the series (its presented in a very noire manner as almost every scene is night, overcast, or raining.) since everyone shown to us is haunted by some demon they cant rid themselves completely of. BOOGIEPOP teases us with the question of whether all the things we fear in the night are only there because we created them and allow them to continue living and thriving from us. The tales are very engrossing. Think of it like adjusting a camera lenswhat youre looking at is a little blurry and you cant be too sure of what youre really seeing but once you get it into focus youre a little amused you even had to question it at all. Also, each of the episodes is a story all its own with no real continuity plotwise but proves all the characters are related in a six-degrees of separation sort of way. Ill probably keep up with the series along the morbid fascination lines of appeal, but I wouldnt recommend everyone choose to purchase it along with me if you can help it. An interesting collection which would make a great addition if youre into the macabre or the like.
