Bishoujo Yuugi Unit Crane Geeru
(Seven episodes watched):
I guess it was the crazy premise of this short anime (and the halfway decent jokes that it contained), which left me with a smile on my face afterwards. The very notion that three girls who are good at playing Crane Games/UFO Catchers are what's needed to save the entire world from annihilation made me laugh. And why approach them and tell them the facts when promising them a career as Idols would be a much more effective recruiting tool? These girls are foolish enough to believe a too-good-to-be-true offer like that, but they don't seem like total idiots, which would be annoying. Instead you can start getting to like them. Episode one didn't tell us much more than that, but I was left with a good feeling about this show. The animation is crude, but I was amused and decided that I wouldn't mind watching Crane Game Girls. Part of the appeal of this show is that it provides tips to help people playing these games in real-life. I didn't get what happened when the girls passed their first test; was it just a joke? I found this short to be modestly fun to watch, but when my favorite fansub outfit abruptly cut off episodes at number seven, I didn't feel any great sense of loss and as of yet haven't bothered to watch the rest elsewhere.
