| Late at night, a little girl is being held by kidnappers in a deserted Skeleton City. The guards are lured away and she is rescued by Sunabouzu--who finds her to be rather ungrateful, however. What's more, the leader of the kidnappers is the notorious "Night Mist" Shimada, who promptly has his men seal off all exits from the ancient building and conduct a systematic search for the fugitives--or, as he calls it, a "rat hunt". "How amusing" Shimada comments; "It's been awhile since I was this excited!"... | |

| I thought this one was a little slow at first, but it gets better towards the end--especially the twisted bargaining between Sunabouzu and Shimada. Curiously, we never learn the girl's name, and don't see Sunabouzu's face until the final post-climax scene. Whereas he calls himself a "handyman" in the subtitled version (and fansubs) he's referred to as a "mercenary" in the dub. Furthermore, I thought "Sunabouzu" meant "The Demon of the Sands", so where did the title "Desert Punk" come from? And why were entirely new episode titles added? Fortunately, the subtitled version seems to remain faithful to the original Japanese language version. Forbin Suna - Desert/Sand Bouzu or Bozu - really means Idiot or Baka or Dummy. It's an insult or an endearment. In Negima he's called Negi-Bozu all the time, but said in a nice way. So Desert Idiot or Desert Punk. Mystery solved! | |
