Stretch 5/26/04: SPOILER: I had to watch this one twice before addings my comments. Overall, a nice ending. Melfina is free of her obligations to the Leyline, she explains what it is (a "Machine God", the library of an extinct race), and Hazanko is dead (though I wish it had been made a little more clear what it was that killed him). Surprisingly, Ron MacDougall is not dead--I thought he'd suffered a fate worse than death in the last episode--and a computer program replica of the mind of Harry now serves as the main computer of their ship, the Shangri-La. Also, Gwen Khan seems to have gotten off scot-free, with everything he wanted. In other words, the end of this series seems designed for the addition of a sequel (and I found an Outlaw Star website which included tantalizing rumors that the series might be revived). I, for one, would be delighted--because Outlaw Star KICKS ASS! My favorite line: "I came for my second-place prize" --Gene |
