To my understanding, Saint Seiya: Lost Canvas serves as a sort of prequel to the original Saint Seiya to explore how the Holy War between the Saints and Hades' forces was fought during the 18th century. As my only prior exposure to saint Seiya was sampling the Lost Sanctuary movie last year, I am going into this OVA series blind for the most part. But nonetheless, my reception to Lost Canvas was lukewarm at best since the typical cliches of shounen action anime reared their ugly head enough throughout this baby between its storytelling cliches and character types, alongside the series lacking a proper ending since Hades is still at large by the end of the combined 26-episode run of Lost Canvas. Also for an OVA series, the visuals for Lost Canvas are a bit subpar with animation shortcuts being a frequent sight throughout the series. I suppose I'm gonna take a break from seeing Saint Seiya for a while as in spite of the show's reputation for anime fans with bringing about many of the common storytelling elements of shounen action anime, it's approach hasn't aged well and Lost Canvas hasn't made me tempted to dig into the Saint Seiya mythos any deeper at this point.
