Synopsis
Section 9 has finally identified the assassin they've been hunting so long as Hideo Kuze after finding out that his face must be an individual item made by some excellent face designer. While providing a tiny bit of clichéd background information about Paz, this episode is executed in an exceptionally stupid way:
  • Why would Kaori make Paz the suspect of a crime when she intents to live on in Paz's body afterwards? In any case she'll never be able to use that body again after this episode. And if she only wants that showdown she doesn't need to kill anyone else to get Paz to any particular place all alone; on the contrary, what she did will most likely have the opposite effect (letting Paz be arrested).
  • Why would the police believe Section 9 and let their member Paz go free, against all evidence?
  • Why would both Kusanagi and Batou allow Paz this kind of solo stunt (including self-administered justice)? Instead they could have traced Paz's eye movement when scanning the list of names, thus learn about the name of that woman, and solve the case by themselves (while Paz would have been held in custody by the normal police). Section 9 are the guys with the white hats, right? (By the way, why did the "Individual Eleven" have to be 12 people with one of them being dressed completely unlike the rest, without anyone of the other 11 considering that a bit strange?)
  • Why would Batou have any problem to know who survived in the end? Paz can easily prove his identity by repeating the last line he spoke to Batou before he began his stunt (and which nobody else can know, surely not Kaori). And if Batou actually had any problem with that identification, why would he stand next to that person without any self-protection? If it really were Kaori she can't be sure to fool Batou forever and would likely kill him to get away when she sees a chance to do so - she killed two other people before, one of them a police officer, so it can't get any worse for her.
  • And why on earth did Kaori have to kill the face designer who was involved in Section 9's current case, of all people? That's an information she cannot ever have, as this man has become involved in that case only a few hours ago.
The idea of making a Section 9 member suspect of a crime (Silent Möbius equivalent) looks interesting (and something that Gouda would logically try to cost Section a lot of time for solving that case, precious time that they can't invest elsewhere (Silent Möbius equivalent)... All the more disappointing it is to find out that this was just some incredible coincidence (which this whole cheap episode is built upon).
