After the characters have been introduced, this second episode is about the world [image5] they live in which is a strange mixture of aeras we have experienced in reality. We see assorted technology: There is electricity and motorbikes, but on the other hand not even newspapers. That will focus Rakka's (and the audience's) interest on what's outside the wall which only two beings inside the city will be able to know: The Haibane Renmei and - the dark crows. And then, there are the rules applying for Haibane: They must not receive money, they can only trade through the Haibane Renmei's mechanism, they have to use worn clothes of humans [image2], and they must not come near the wall.
