Al Wayne only wants to be left alone to run the farm that he takes great pride in near the capital city of the Kingdom of Meigis. But somehow raising all of his farming skills to a level of 10 has an unexpected effect: he acquires a colossal attack rating as well, something that characters who have spent their lives training as fighters would die for. Now he is in great demand as a de-facto hero while he would rather just get back to the fields.

Ah, yes, another 'gag isekai' series: some character inadvertantly becomes a high ranked fighter almost completely by accident in a counter-intuitive manner. It has happened before by fighting nothing more than slimes for ages, and by taking an extremely defensive approach to combat, so why not have it happen as a reward for being an excellent farmer? Al is suddenly so strong that he takes down a Dragon simply by throwing a carrot at it. It is clear now that this show is at least partly a comedy, but that wasn't immediately obvious. The way this first episode ran you would think that someone forgot to tell the VAs that these lines were intended as jokes, and as a result the actors recorded them as if they were to be taken completely seriously. It would be hard to blame them; I didn't laugh even once during this episode. I was bewildered by the Dragon incident because it didn't seem to be meant as a joke, but what else could it be? Nobody in their right mind would just shrug such a thing off, as Al does. Were they trying to be funny or not? Al has an eventful day as he also rescues Princess Fal-Ys Meigis from an abduction attempt. But it was all extremely corny, and not in a funny way. It felt as if this was a story that had been written by an elementary school student. And the whole notion that maybe a video game would have a secret program that would occasionally turn good farmers into good fighters makes no sense at all to begin with. This felt like a show which very, very little effort had been put into. The thought occured to me near the beginning that somebody ought to make an anime about a minor character--maybe a farmer--who leads a revolution against a typically repressive, might-makes-right, videogame-like political system in some isekai world. That would be cool.

I watched episode two in hopes that things would improve. I guess the problem here (and with numerous similar joke-Isekai series) is that the basic premise is basically a joke, but once whatever humor it contains wears off, we get generic isekai fare about fighting monsters for the rest of the season. In episode two a terrifying dragon (with a mind-boggling attack rating) is detected nearby. Princess Fal attaches herself to Al and won't let go. But I was finding this to be pretty unremarkable if not outright boring. I don't sense that I have any stake in the question of whether the Dragon will ravage Meigis, since the characters in this show are pretty shallow. Even Al's personality consists entirely of his wish to go work the fields and nothing more. So, very weak and I think I will drop this show.
