Based on Japan`s Greatest Science Fiction Novel! Get ready for a non-stop onslaught of high-tech action as metal leviathans collide in the ultimate war of super science in Super Atragon. Moments after an atomic bomb falls over Hiroshima, a secret Japanese submarine sails into battle against its American counterpart, and both are lost to history. Some fifty years later, a special UN task force sent to investigate unusual phenomena in Antarctica is threatened by a mysterious black cylinder until the re-appearance of the long lost Japanese sub. However, the incident in the Antarctic is only the first round in a cataclysmic battle of wills between two descendants of an ancient race dwelling within the Earth. Standing against them is a single, amazing ship, the RA, a Yamato-class battle sub secretly built after its supposed destruction in WWII.

Super Atragon
so this show is about a ship kinda yamato esque designed to battle the forces of evil...sound familiar? the rings are cool, the thought of ancient beings are cool, but had i not been on an anime kick during the VHS era, i would not own this...that being said, if you dig the whole WWII ship comes back years later as a futuristic defender of the earth thing, give this a try...

Super Atragon
Super Atragon was really good. It had some of the neatest technological ideas I have seen. The story was good as were the characters. The under-sea battleship Ra was really cool. The animation was top notch. It is well worth seeing, and buying.

Super Atragon
Atragon is a very good and consistantly underrated anime. The animation is really good, the backgrounds could be better, but the character movement is pretty nice. I'm a history buff, so I loved the WWII opening, and it was nice to see little things like the obviously Me262 influenced escape plane. The microwave radiation part was interesting, though microwave radiation was used in radar stations in the 50's, soldiers used to gather around the generators for warmth, and no one exploded...
The mechanical designs were nice. Very unique, though the character designs were nothing special. The gravity lenses were really a great concept, and one that is scientifically possible, though probably not feasable.
The American dub is very good, with much of the cast re-used from Evangelion. Super Atrigon is definately worth your time. It's good solid story-telling with some excellent animation and interesting ideas. Definately a buy.
