Gantz - : It's The Beginning Of A Brand New Day

Comparing Version 0 to Version 1:

Comments:
I went into this series with a good deal of trepidation, having heard all sorts of nasty things about it, and not being a big fan of ultra-violence. I found it to be a bizarre mix of violent, vulgar, risque, and disturbing elements--and yet somehow intriguing. What is this thing? What kind of lives does it expect the people to live from now on? How were Kei and Katou transported here with their bodies back in one piece? Why wasn't any trace of their splattered bodies found back at the subway station?

<br>You know a series likes this is gonna be quite bad when one of the major sights of its first episode feature the male lead, Kei Kurono, being more aroused by the sight of a naked Kei Kishimoto than concerned for her well-being as she's about to be raped by a yakuza thug and it was this sight that made me ditch the show for a while when I had it in my personal collection. It somewhat befuddles me that some reviewers think Kurono is a believable representation of modern youth, while he seems more like a flat archetype adding to the regular sight of depravity you see out of Gantz. At this point, only Katou sticks out as a likeable character within the show for me. Everyone else is either too limited in depth or a complete scumbag to bother relating to.
