Busou Renkin - 15: Interim Existence

Title:Busou Renkin
Episode:15: Interim Existence
Synopsis
Before Tokiko's eyes, Kazuki--who she had feared was dead--shows himself to be not only alive but also transforms into a being of seemingly the same sort as Victor. They are more-or-less equals now, both able to heal almost instantly from gruesome injuries, so Victor chooses to break off the fight. He advises Kazuki to avoid displaying his alchemic powers at all costs; "from now on, you will taste the same suffering as I did a century ago" he warns. Curiously, Victor also vows to "eliminate every single thing created through alchemy", including both homunculi and alchemic warriors. Tokiko blames herself for changing Kazuki into what he's become. Papillon was watching the whole time, and is enraged. "You, who tried to stop me from giving up being human to become a superhuman, have given up being human yourself?! There should be a limit to your hypocrisy!" Kazuki, who has reverted to his normal appearance, insists that he hasn't given up his humanity, but Chouno (Papillon) argues that he's merely in a dormant state, and if his fighting instincts are triggered again he'll surely transform yet again, perhaps permanently this time. Meanwhile, at the L.X.E. headquarters, Captain Bravo is still engaged in his marathon battle with the various incarnations of Moonface. "Your subordinate held out for two days", Moonface tells him. "How long will you be able to entertain me?"...

Busou Renkin is definitely back on track again. The details of the plot don't make complete sense, but that's okay because it's such a fun show nevertheless. There's something about this show that just makes me giggle with excitement as the plot comes together. It's not just a matter of good guys versus bad ones, but strange, complex motivations on the parts of the characters. Plus, their outlandish personalities; I hope we haven't seen the last of Moonface, because he is (they are?) priceless. I thought the fight between Kazuki and Victor was broken off much more quickly than I'd expected; the fight between Captain Bravo and Moonface went quickly as well. Still, better cool fights than completely rational ones (or interminably long ones). There were all sorts of intriguing teasers in the first half of the episode, followed by great comedy in the second--this show is a riot! A new ED song, too--I liked the old one better, but Papillon gets the limelight here.

My favorite line: "The lower half of my body is going to break off!" --Papillon
