Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~ - 8: Just Watching...

Title:Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~
Episode:8: Just Watching...
Synopsis
We flash back to Ayuki being shown a butterfly as a child, as a metaphor for maturing. Hitoshi asks Hazumu to participate in a "Test of Courage" as part of his data collection. He needs more "data of love", especially since she doesn't seem to be making any progress lately towards building relationships. Hazumu refuses the request, but Namiko-sensei grants permission for Hitoshi to conduct the test at school--provided she can observe it. Hazumu, Tomari, Asuta and Ayuki are drafted to take part. While working in the rooftop garden, Hazumu overhears Ayuki turning down a boy's confession. She says she already has someone she likes, but won't say who it is. Tomari invites Yasuna to take part in the courage test as well, and she agrees. At the school after nightfall, the students break up into pairs. Yasuna and Ayuki are together, and Ayuki asks Yasuna how she feels about Hazumu. She says that since she confessed, she feels much more relieved, and is actually pleased to learn that someone besides her (Tomari) harbors the same feelings for Hazumu. But why, she asks, is Ayuki around Hazumu so much...?

A nice episode, with a balanced mix of intriguing, heartfelt revelations and outlandish comedy as Hitoshi and Jan-Puu do their best to terrify the students. Ayuki gets the spotlight this time, which I enjoyed since she seems to be the sort of girl who I would find most attractive if I were a classmate. Who was she talking about when she said she had someone she liked? Is she attracted to Hazumu as well, but content to keep it a secret? I'm taking so long to watch this show that I'd almost forgotten that Hazumu was a boy once. Ironically, she may well be more feminine than the tomboyish Tomari. I have no idea who, if anyone, Hazumu will eventually choose as a boy- or girlfriend. Finally, where would this show be without Namiko-sensei? She's hilarious, and the one character I most sympathize with.
