Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~ - 4: Girl Triangle

Title:Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~
Episode:4: Girl Triangle
Synopsis
On a rainy day Tomari finds herself strangely pensive about Hazumu and Yasuna spending so much time together lately. Hazumu asked her to be her friend, and Yasuna agreed after admitting that the reason she had originally rejected Hazumu was because she became afraid to make a committment. Namiko-sensei introduces the classes' new assistant teacher, Sora Hitoshi, who is supposedly a relative of Hazumu. Yasuna is asked to play her flute with the music club, but begs out, saying she lacks the needed confidence. She'd rather be with Hazumu, and Tomari is uncomfortable to learn that they are going somewhere together after school. "Hazumu seems happy to be friends with you again" Tomari tells her; "Try to get along, though many things may happen". Hazumu and Yasuna go shopping for clothes together. After seeing a couple on the street, Yasuna asks "Do we look like that also, as lovers?" (and is immediately embarassed). They decide to pay a visit to a karaoke place. After a little accident there, they each ask themselves the same question: "What am I thinking?"...

Kashimashi has quickly become one of the series I am most eager to watch (Thanks, Forbin, and sorry I've been hogging the episode reviews!). as such, I had high expectations for hilarious gender-bending comedy this time around, but was initially disappointed because this episode concentrates on the emotions of the characters. But it's still fun, and having rewatched it with more accurate expectations I realize it does a good job of carrying the plot forward. Tomari seems to have always had a sort of subconscious love for Hazumu, and perhaps assumed he would inevitably be her mate--now she doesn't know exactly what to think. Yasuna has likewise liked Hazumu for a long time ("You have the purest heart out of everyone else") but was afraid to admit it 'til now. I wonder if a show like this could ever be licensed in the US...

Here we have another example of an amusingly weird female teacher character. I'd say no such character could hold a candle to Ms. Shikijo in Mahoromatic, but I think it's definitely done better here than in DearS (she was too perverted!). Namiko-sensei's habit of falling out of windows, etc, while daydreaming about romance could get tiresome, but not quite yet (likewise Hazumu's mother beating up her perverted husband).
