Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~ - 3: Hazumu's Heart, Yasuna's Heart

Title:Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~
Episode:3: Hazumu's Heart, Yasuna's Heart
Synopsis
Hazumu returns home to find a strangely dressed man and woman awaiting her in her room. After a bit of curious fondling, they introduce themselves. He's an alien, here to observe earthlings, and Hazumu realizes he was the one who resurrected her as a girl. She's actually his ship, which has a mind of it's own and insisted on taking part in the observations, so he "reshaped her into a living being" (she goes by the name of "Jan-puu"). The next morning Hazumu wonders how she'll keep her visitors a secret from her parents, but this doesn't turn out to be much of a problem at all. She's late for school and embarasses herself. Namiko-sensei is nearby and is entranced by an oddly dressed but quite handsome man. At school Hazumu tells some of the other girls about how Tomari saved her from the mob of reporters yesterday. Ayuki reveals that Tomari has even gotten love letters from other female students. Yasuna-chan is nearby but avoids eye contact with Hazumu. Hazumu notices that the flower Yasuna planted alongside his before the "accident" is missing. Yasuna-chan has been making excuses to avoid doing things with classmates. Hazumu waits for her after school and asks to talk with her...

Tomari is so butch that a number of girls find her attractive, much to her chagrin. Wouldn't it be wild if the aliens decided that they had to convert a girl into a boy to even things out, and they chose her? Then again, maybe that would rationalize things too much, and it's better being sort of confusing. I like the new subplot of Namiko-sensei falling for Mr. Alien--I wonder how far it will go. I think it's fair to say that "originality" is a strong point of this series. Sure, there are plenty of high- or middle school romance animes, but none spring to mind which include a gender-bending element. Will this turn out to be a "harem" series? Perhaps, but again it will be one with a unique twist. One thought: I wonder why nobody has concluded that maybe Hazumu was a girl all along, but was crossdressing until recently...? Also, I took a look at the Animesuki website, and counted no less than seven fansubbing outfits working on their own versions of this series, sometimes independently and sometimes in cooperation with another. I prefer the Knkf & Doremi edition, simply because their subtitles are easy to read. I cannot wait for more of Kashimashi!!
