This experimental film from Osamu Tezuka features a satirical look at professions that are glorified in human society by exploring negative aspects of them such as a corporate owner's obsession with replacing human workers with machines, the fame of being a boxer getting to one's head and a Zen Buddhist getting too wrapped up in meditation to confront the harsh realities of life. This is depicted through a museum showing different portraits of the professions focused on in differing caricatures, with their negative aspects shown through differing animation styles and stand-alone stories. Pictures at an Exhibition has no spoken dialogue, instead relying on its visuals to depict the different stories told and having some nicely done orchestral scores accompanying the various stories told. The final story told depicts some powerful symbolism with how people tend to neglect the fact that we have the past ideals and accomplishments of historical figures to thank for the conveniences and "heroes" that we have in the modern era. The movie is a definite look if you are either an animation enthusiast or Osamu Tezuka fan.
