Our third and last installment of Nodame. If you loved the first two installments, this one is a pick-me-up for sure.

Art, Animation & Character Designs
Artwork, animation and character designs haven't improved here. See my review on the first season here. One thing note however was the poor use of CG during the orchesta scenes (where Chiaki is conducting). The CG was pretty cheaply done and at times almost reminded me of South Park.... the way the characters moved. But, this was a relatively minor detail.

Music
The OP this time was a much happier piece. The type you would imagine someone skipping or hopping to while madly in love.... and that was the theme judging by the animated sequence. As for the soundtrack, it's still filled with classical music goodness.... although nowhere as much as the first season and about the same as the second season.

Series and Episode Story
We essentially start up where the second season leaves off.... still in Paris. As the second season, here we sorta breeze through some performances (musical) to progress the plot. In a way, it's a slight bummer as I wanted to sit through and listen to the classical pieces. But this isn't bad of course.

About half way through the series, we start focusing more on Nodame and her musical dilemma.... which actually is a nice and refreshing change of pace. At the same time, the relationship between Nodame and Chiaki further develops (mainly on Chiaki's side).

Overall, it's another excellent series to sit through. Be sure to watch the first two installments before hitting this one.

A simple way for me to explain my thoughts of Nodame Cantabile's third season would be the first half being no different from Paris-hen and the second half returning to what I enjoyed from the first season. The first half still rushes through events giving off an unnatural feel as the focus on music plays second fiddle to the character developments which gave me enough fits. The second half puts the brakes on Finale's pacing providing a smoother narration and greater focus on music with Nodame's character struggling with her thoughts on it when lacking the motivation to continue playing music. The use of CG-animated music playing sequences still fluidly follow the intensity of classical musical selections seen throughout the series. Still, the problems with the first half of the series did hurt the overall experience of Finale for me. While an improvement over Paris-hen, Finale is still nowhere on par with the first season's quality with storytelling and emphasis on music.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2209#628]
(One episode watched):

I was a little uncomfortable going into this, since my mixed memory of the previous seasons was of a show that had some fun jokes but also had a plot which was moving slowly and was bordering on being tiresome to watch. In other words, not one of the shows which I was most eager to watch each week. The novelty of the classical music theme pretty much wore off long ago, though a little had regenerated over the months since season two ended. I found that the relationship between Shinnichi and Kodame has hardly changed since season one--they are uncomfortable even being described as boyfriend & girlfriend. I think that's what frustrates me; their romance just seems to run in circles without ever going anywhere. That being the case, it's hard to motivate myself to pay close attention to the various plot threads; I'm watching for the jokes, at least until I refresh my memory about what's going on. I'll be watching this, but again I doubt if it will be one of my favorites of the season.

All I can remark after this final season is that it's unremarkable. It is just sort of flat. Not emotional, not dramatic, not humorous. There is no distinct feeling about this season whatsoever. It is not palmface bad, nor is it good.

But I guess this finally brings to an end the story of Nodame and Chiaki.
