Hoping to recover from a broken heart, Kazuya Hasukawa moves away from his brother and his new wife to attend an elite high school. He will be living at a dormitory called "Ryokurin-ryou" — commonly called by its more easily pronounceable English name, Greenwood. The building was formerly used as an insane asylum and everyone knows that the students living there are a bit bizarre, and they have been waiting for Kazuya's arrival.

While originally released on VHS tape in 1996 (with a CPM dub) and then rereleased in 2004 on DVD (with a Media Blasters dub), this series is no longer in 'print'.

6 episode OVA (released in 1991/93)
Produced by Hakusensha & Victor Entertainment
Licensed for R1/USA release by Central Park Media / Media Blasters

There is also a Japanese live-action TV-drama series which is viewable (subtitled/streaming) at Mysoju.

The manga was R1-licensed by Viz, but is currently out of print (as of 2004). Read the translated manga online at MangaFox.

For a 6-episode one-shot OAV series, Here is Greenwood proved to be quite the entertaining little gem. The series delivered clever comedic timing in the antics of the Greenwood residents as they fooled one another or others that were a thorn in their sides. The characters are a likeable bunch full of diverse personalities and their own little quirks with their lives beyond the Greenwood dorm from the androygmous-appearing Shun to the horrible luck of Kazuya to Mitsuru's reputation with girls. My only issues with the series were that the seemingly watercolor feel of the scenery didn't mesh well with the character designs and that the series couldn't cram enough on the backgrounds of the roommates at Greenwood. However, the laughs delivered by the series more than make up for these shortcomings. I give Here is Greenwood a strong Rent recommendation.

Here is Greenwood is a very funny series. I laughed my butt of in the first tape, even my friends who watched it (whom don't like anime in the least) were crumbling to the floor at the antics of the greenwood gang. Much to my dissapointment, the series does taper of slightly after the first few eps, but many OVAs do that in an attempt to cram a huge number of manga volumes into a 3 tape set. I agree with Newman-chan, it should have been longer. But still it's a wonderful little ova with a merciless sense of humor.
so, See it, Love it, and start helping me beg graphic novel companies to translate the manga.

This one charmed the hell outta me.

Aside from sometimes making me question my sexuality, Koko wa Greenwood entertained me to no end with (sometimes) believeable stories of (wacky) dorm life. My only problem with this tiny OAV set is there is not enough! Otherwise, check out Here is Greenwood. It's really good! Trust me!

Rent 7 7 7 5 6 6 Kaitou Juliet [series:304#137]

This is a charming, low-key series which gently sucks you into life at Greenwood. The artwork has a nice, watercolory look to it.

The first four episodes focus mostly on the likeable oddballs who live in the dorm, while the last two develop a romance for Hasukawa. I think anyone who's ever lived in a dorm will recognize at least some of the "types" and humor.

If you want explosions every other minute, skip this one. If you enjoy laid-back comedies with lots of cute guys, grab it!
