Murder Princess has a paint-by-numbers plot structure in its focus on a princess and bounty hunter who swap bodies with one another as part of a contract for said bounty hunter to protect the princess' kingdom from a coup d'etat from her kingdom's scientist and his creations. The series mixes comedy, action, and adventure compliments of said bounty hunter giving the princess a fearless reputation due to occupying her body, not being used to the royal duties of her position, protecting the kingdom, and trying to seek a means to have her soul returned to her original body. It mostly gets by the execution of its style thanks to this gimmick as other elements to its plot and characters are either not too focused on or are pretty typical for an anime. Pretty much, you'd get the best enjoyment out of the series if you shut your brain off and enjoy both the humor of its gimmick and the badassery demonstrated by Falis while occupying Alita's body.

(All episodes watched):

Ah, so that's how a deadly, sword-swinging girl wound up as a princess! I had mixed feelings about the opening episode: on the one hand, the premise was intriguing and the dark comedy was funny at times; on the other, I was confused about a number of things. At times it was unclear what I was supposed to be feeling as the show jumped back and forth between action, comedy and horror. For example, I wish there had been some sort of explanation of bounty hunter Falis' freakish companions Pete and Dominikov (there is, but not until episode five or so). Having rewatched the opening episode, and additional ones as well, I realise that this is actually a pretty slick show, with a fairly well thought-out plotline and surprisingly moving, believable emotions on the part of the characters. As I thought about some of my favorite anime series, the thought occured to me that what they had in common was one totally implausible event--like Princess Alita and Falis exchanging bodies--to get things rolling. Once you suspend disbelief and accept this one weird twisting of reality (more than one might spoil everything), the rest of the show has a certain uniqueness to it that keeps you captivated and enthralled. Such a show is Murder Princess. The mix of dark humor and action in fact works so well as to virtually guarantee an R1 license. The series does have some problems, though; the last episode or two seemed kind of rushed, at least to me. Episodes 1-5 felt like the start of a 13 or 26 episode series (I didn't know how many episodes there really would be), then number six quickly wrapped things up. It had some neat twists, but fine touches like music, timing, etc, seemed off. At one point Murder Princess seemed at the mercy of an opponent, then suddenly she's in an entirely different room, on her feet again, and without her opponent being present! I can't help thinking that this final episode was hurriedly thrown together. One thing I've noticed is that really well written shows make me strive to understand and follow the plot (and remembering it is easy), whereas most have more of an "Eh, I'll watch but don't ask me to try twice to catch something" effect (and I quickly forget most of the plot anyway). Murder Princess falls into this latter category, but I'm glad I watched it anyhow. It was a fun show which makes me grin as I think about it.

huh, so as of ep 2, we see a little bit more character from the leading ladies. their personalities kinda baffle me, but anyway. mostly still humorous with plenty gore and action.

The first episode is out as a fansub. It is pretty weird - frankenstein monsters, horned deamons, mad scientists with loli-robots, and one very wicked & bloodthirsty swordswoman.

I think that I am going to like this series.
