Orphen, Majic, Cleo and her magic-puppy, Leki are back for a 2nd season of magic, mystery and comedy. Licorous, a young female representative of the Royal Order of Knighthood, pursues Orphen insisting that he make an appearance before the order for some mysterious reason. A powerful and mysterious mage from the Tower of Fang is out for revenge, and sends an army of sorcerious monsters in an attempt to kill Orphen. The superhero, the Shrimp-man (the Black Tiger) is back, with a new sidekick, the White Crab (the Club). And who is the woman in red, who plays the piano in the strangest of places?

This proved to be quite weak compared to Orphen's first season. Compared to the dark action-driven fantasy of the first season, Orphen: The Revenge mostly goes for a more light-hearted comedic approach with "monster of the day" plot setups throughout much of its run, which mostly fall flat. Volken and Dortia return as well, who are still quite obnoxious as the show's failed comedic relief. There are hints dropped of an evil threat desiring Orphen for nefarious purposes, but much of this doesn't get revealed until the final six episodes of the series and instead, you get stuck dealing with the subpar comedy and "monster of the day" plots. Even with the reveal on the season's big evil, it's not as intriguing and personal as the issues Orphen faced with Bloody August from the first season and the reasoning for the evil is a bit on the cliched side if you've seen titles with similar premises. Overall, Orphen: The Revenge is a much weaker offering compared to its engaging first season and I wouldn't be in a rush to track it down.

I am reviewing the first twelve episodes of the ADV-dub DVD release. I have the first three DVDs, with four episodes per DVD, (which surprised me a bit.) Well, gone is the dark story that was present in the first season, which distinguished this series from many others (sigh). At least Orphen has not lost his sarcastic tongue and biting wit
This season is all comedy, whimsy and romance, as Orphen and Cleo argue, bicker and flirt incessantly through a series of outrageous situations. Majic picks up a female admirer, Eris, who is also who proves herself to be very jealous of Majics other female friends. Eris is also doubles as the sidekick of the superhero(?) the Shrimpman, and rides a walrus. Vulcan proves himself to even more of an egomaniac, as he and Dortin are continuously under foot as they thieve and bumble their way through the story line.
There is some darkness with The Tower of Fang not being done with Orphen yet, as a revengeful sorcerer challenges Orphen, while other tower sorcerers attempt to protect and help him.
And the outtakes (which appear in the extras section) appears to intentionally staged to scandalize the viewer with their course and unpublishable language.
With very little fan service or other objectionable content, this series appears to be primed for broadcast TV. It is a fun series with laughs, but not as enjoyable as the first season.
I will offer a more complete review with I have been able to review the entire series.
