The TV series.. (Battle Athletes (OAV) also being an OAV and a video game): same story, same setting, more fun. ^_^
The story starts off in Antarctica, where Akari meets Ichino and they become best friends. However, Akari's a bit of... well... she's the slacker of the school, but she realizes there are so many people she's letting down... including herself.

(Rent-/ Watch+)

A slight improvement over the OVA series, this TV take on Battle Athletes is more slower paced allowing for more time to be focused on characters as old faces from the OVA return with some new characters introduced and more comedy incorporated thanks to character quirks or aspects of the various athletic events that participants in the Cosmo Beauty competition take part in. I was more into the comedy than the plot and characters for this series (the comedy being enough to barely give this a Rent) for me as it still sticks with the cliched elements to the "doing your best" story with plot and characters from the OVA, even with the depth and development provided here.

The anime has its weak moments with its storytelling style. It did make Akari's character a bit harder for me to care for than the OVA with her childish (who the hell hides in a crayon-drawn house as a teenager?) and pathetic antics in earlier episodes of the TV anime. The anime also had its sloppy moments of writing as there was only a brief "see or miss it" moment alluding to a major threat that Akari and the gals have to confront in the final episodes of the series and some lapses in logic pop up at points, such as Mylandah still being allowed at the University Satellite despite damn near killing her opposition in her rage against rival Lahrri. And as you would expect of the "doing your best" story approach, it tries way too hard at making threats that Akari goes up against to be beyond her (Mylandah and Lahrri in the Cosmo Beauty competition and a later foe in the final episodes) until the "power of friendship" gives her the ability to beat said unstoppable opponent.

Overall, Battle Athletes Victory didn't feel much different for me from the OVAs in terms of its setup, even with the expanded depth of its cast, new characters and more comedy. While the comedy was decent at a number of points in the show, I don't think I'll be hopping back to it for a second watch.

WAAAAAAII! There's more! ^_^* I love Battle Athletes Victory. It's more fun than a cardboard box! It really is! Anyhow, I love this series because I can empathize with some of the characters. Be prepared to cry, be prepared to laugh; most importantly, be ready to cheer. ^_^
