Miyuki and Natsumi are partners on a suburb of Tokyo's police force (Bokuto precinct). Together with fellow officers bike patrolman Ken Nakajima (who has a mutual crush with Miyuki), Aoi Futaba (the transvestite), and Yoriko Nikaido (the good-hearted but busybody cop with glasses), this force attempts to keep the streets safe from criminals.

Continuing off from the OAV series, You're Under Arrest retains its focus on the everyday lives of Miyuki, Natsumi and the members of the Bokuto Police Precinct. This TV season introduces some new characters that become prominent throughout the show's run such as transvestite officer Aoi Futaba and the bizarre crime-fighting vigilante Strike Man. For the most part, episodes of this TV series are episodic with the occasional two to three episode arcs in later episodes. The series effectively mixes comedy and drama in its focus on the activities of its cast on and off the job as police officers such as dealing with Strike Man's antics and some serious crime threats. Natsumi, Miyuki and the Bokuto cops are still their same likable selves and some episodes even provide focus on the characters such as seeing Nakajima's parents and Aoi conflicted over finding love thanks to her unique circumstances. Noticeably, the animation for this first TV season takes a hit from the OAV's great quality as colors are faded out, details for scenery and characters are more on the simple side, animation shortcuts are more apparent and there are occasional animation errors. In addition, this series would still be likely to turn off folks who aren't fans of episodic storytelling and the slice-of-life genre. Still if you did enjoy the OAV to You're Under Arrest, the TV series is still a definite recommendation provided you don't get too turned off by its inferior animation quality.

Normally, I don't care for "Cops & Robbers" types of shows but I've read a great deal of positive reviews on this series so I finally broke down and picked it up. I'm glad I did because it far exceeded my expectations.

Art, Animation & Character Designs
Artwork showed its age. Not great but bearable. Animation was more or less the same. However, at about episode 39, it seemed to change a bit... almost an improvement. I almost want to say it was a different set of artists.... had a slightly different feel to them.

Music
The music, although not bad wasn't of my tastes. But it seemed to work well for the series. The OP wasn't bad either.

Series and Episode Story
This series turned out to be quite fun and interesting. All the characters were vibrant, fun and fit well into the series. Normally, there would be at least character that I wouldn't care for but here, all the characters worked well and were fun. The whole series was episodic... meaning there was no plot but rather each episode were the stories themselves. Most the episodes were enjoyable as the whole series had elements of just about everything.... action, drama, romance and humor.

There are a few gripes. One, Natsumi's method of stopping the car was a bit overdone. Ok, so anime don't exactly depict realism but c'mon, I thought that was a bit too much. Second, Yoriko's voice got a bit annoying afterwards. However, after about 30 or so episodes, I got use to it. Actually she was one of my fav.

Overall, this was a really good series.... and well balanced.

Don't watch this series immediately after watching Taiho Shichauzo! (OAV). For starters, the art, animation, character designs, and even the stories take a huge drop off from the OAV. That's not to say the TV series is bad, but compared to the OAV, it really looks bad. So take a week or so, watch some other titles, then watch the TV series.

As a whole, YUA is kind of like the Japanese version of C.H.i.P.'s. All of the action centers around the Bokuto police precinct and specifically, the traffic department. Some of the "action" centers around things like someone acting dumb and crashing, a vehicle leaking gas and exploding, an old woman menacing folks on her scooter, etc. If you've seen the OAV (and you need to have seen it in order to establish the characters), you'll know the main story of this mostly episodic series is about best friends and partners Miyuki and Natsumi. The secondary story is the romance between Ken and Miyuki. There are stories dedicated to other characters and their lives, but those are the main to story threads.

After seeing the first four episodes of the TV series, I have to say I wasn't impressed. We were introduced to the transvestite cop Aoi-chan, who's purpose mainly seems to appear as a beautiful anime babe, sound like a cute anime babe, and act like an anime babe, but wear boxers and really be a man. But the character is likeable which is a relief. When episode 5 picked up the romance thread between Ken and Miyuki, the series became interesting to me again.

The individual stories are mostly interesting, but are aided by the very likeable cast. Sometimes, their little adventures as cops can be quite humorous. Through 47 episodes, the romance between Ken and Miyuki doesn't do much and I had a problem with that. I enjoyed the episodes dealing with it (especially the final episode). However, they do tend to act like grade schoolers in the romance department. That in and of itself didn't bother me, but I would have liked to have seen them make more progress than they did. The series really shined from episode 45 though. Knowing things were coming to an end, the writers gave Natsumi a romance which while unexpected, really worked well. And the final episodes were more serial in nature as well which was nice.

Bottom line: sweet, charming, humorous, and nice. This most likely won't make your top-10 anime list, but YUA (and thus Bokuto) is a place I enjoyed visiting enough to want to come back. Thus it gets a borderline "Buy".

This series emphaizes the friendship of the two policewomen. Even though they have different personalities, they managed to get along well, with a lot of stupid and funny things happen to them....
Overall it is a pretty good anime.
Fun to watch, a pretty good buy.

It's by the same comcier who makes Oh! My Goddess!
Its episodes are a bunch of independent stories but they also connect to one each other. It's really funny to watch two policewomen and their companions interact and hilarious ideas Miyuki and Natsumi (the two policewomen) bring out when doing their daily duties. Natsumi's personality is the exact opposite of Miyuki's, but they get along pretty well. And because of their different personalities, funny always happen.
Fun to watch, and it's also warm.
