Sōya Kuroi has dreams of people with superpowers fighting a massive dragon in the sky, but his real life is almost as weird. He's had amnesia for about two weeks and been taken in by a maid and an anthropomorphic cat. When a UFO in the shape of a stuffed bear approaches Sorimasaka City and other metros around the world, he's startled to see seven rainbow-sparkling heroes zoom out to confront it – just like in his dream. Even weirder, the maid wants him to leave his shelter to confront these heroes and take the source of their power.

In spite of the seemingly quirky initial setup of our male lead Soya living with a maid and an anthropomorphic cat, Planet With offers up a surprisingly complicated and engaging plot involving three factions opposing one another to decide the Earth's fate. The complicated part stems from the fact that all three factions aren't exactly villainous and have sympathetic justifications for the actions they commit to accomplish their goals, even taking time to provide focus on a number of the major characters to explore their backgrounds and motives for why they are committed to their causes. In addition, the concept of motivation gets dabbled into with Soya's character for the anime's second half when he finds himself trying to find purpose for himself after seemingly accomplishing what he set out to do in Planet With's first half against one of the rival factions. The series has its imperfections with the rather subpar CG animation used for rendering its mecha and aliens, not taking enough time to explore some elements of its story, and the rather underwhelming final story arc involving a time skip dealing with one final enemy threat in spite of much of the series involving the conflict between the three factions in question. Still, the complex direction offered up in Planet With's focus on the three factions in conflict still gives it a good amount of character exploration and complexity in exploring which faction is right with their goals, and I don't regret wasting my time on the series in spite of its flaws.
