(Three episodes watched):

When Nagumo and his harem, travelling across a desert in their custom made Hummer, stumbled across a man who is being surrounded but not attacked by a host of sandworms, it felt like a stereotypical quest opening scene from a video game. Why was a nobleman travelling alone across a desert that teems with these dangerous creatures? Nevermind. It turns out there's a mana illness rampaging through the people of the Dukedom of Ankaji, and as unashamedly selfish as he is, Nagumo can't disappoint his girls by refusing to help. There's a convenient remedy, 'Stillstone', waiting to be collected and taken there. This episode does a decent job of bringing us up to speed regarding where things stood at the end of the 2019 season one. As usual, the girls of Nagumo's harem are bickering over which of them is his favorite. This episode certainly did not thrill me, and I expect the series to be of no better than average quality, but for now I plan to watch, largely because the characters have some personality and I watched season one.

In episode two Nagumo and the girls arrive in Ankaji and stabilize the situation with magic. Then they venture into a volcano in search of Stillstone, and again they use all sorts of magic to overcome various trials. But I found it to be distinctly boring; it seemed like little more than a demonstration of just what the team is capable of. They are so powerful, so skilled, so agile, and so lucky that they never seemed to be in danger of anything worse than having to sweat a little. Actually, they barely sweated even while floating on a sea of lava. We learn little about how this mana illness got started except that a 'demon' was probably behind it, which isn't exactly intriguing. I was left thinking that maybe this show wouldn't be worth watching after all. What I would like to see--for once--is a serious effort to find a way back to modern-day Japan from this isekai world, but this arc doesn't seem to have anything to do with that.
